Suitable Clutch + Flywheel (1.8 Silvertop Zetec + Type 9)
I've tried searching for a suitable answer to my question but can't seem to find anything. I've also asked on the Haynes Roadster
forum but to no avail.
I am trying to decide what the best option for me will be in terms of clutch and flywheel setup. I currently have a 1.8 silvertop zetec (93) and a
type 9 gearbox.
My zetec engine did not come with a flywheel. However I did strip down a complete 1.8 CVH (which proved to be a dud so I bought a silvertop from a
member on here for £40). So I have a 1.8 CVH flywheel, starter motor, alternator etc to use.
I have been told that it is possible to use a 1.8 CVH flywheel with my engine and type 9 box, which would then mean buying a 1.8 cvh clutch.
What I am trying to decide is should I go for a 1.8 CVH flywheel (which I already have) or try and source a 1.8 silvertop zetec flywheel and then buy
a suitable clutch + release bearing + spigot bearing?
What are the benefits to using a 1.8 CVH flywheel over a 1.8 silvertop zetec flywheel and clutch? What different components will need to be bought to
make both of these setups work, in terms of spigot bearing, release bearing etc? Finally is it worth going for ARP flywheel bolts over some new ones
from Ford?
I have a large pillar drill so I would be happy to drill the bolt holes from 10mm to 11mm on the 1.8 CVH flywheel so that wouldnt be an issue.

I used the 1.8 zetec flywheel with a 2.0 mondeo clutch ( plate and cover ) with a ct133 bearing.
No problems so far.

If you use the cvh fly then you will have no pick up for the ignition. You can run a trigger wheel on the front pulley.
much easier is to get a 1.8 zetec flywheel

Whatever clutch bits you need, try CG Motorsport in Leeds (http://www.clutch-specialists.co.uk).
I got them to make me a friction plate to mate a type9 to a Pug V6 engine. They made it to my measurements and charged £25. When I tried to fit it,
the springy hubby bit fouled the CRB gubbins because the Pug clutch is a pull type and as such, the CRB carrier sits behind the clutch cover
fingers.
I called them and told them the problem and they suggested that I drop the cover in so they could have a look. I popped in this morning with the
friction plate that didn't fit, the old Pug friction plate and the Pug clutch cover. Less than ten minutes later, they handed me a completely
reconditioned Pug V6 friction plate fitted with a Ford 1"x23 spline centre. Total cost? Just the £25 they charged me for the plate I'd
ordered wrongly!
They also do competition clutches to order.
