Does anyone know what section of the mot manual has the wording to exempt my 1983 q plate 2.0 zetec powered kitcar from the emmisions test?
He has had a look and we cannot find it in the manual on the mot computer.

I'm sure there is also a separate section of wording which states something along the lines of
"any vehicle with a Q registration plate should be regarded for purposes of the emissions test, as a vehicle registered before 1st January
1973"
I'm sorry but can't remember exactly where this is in the manual, might be in the emissions section, might be in one of the appendices, or
might be somehere in the blurb at the start of the manual where it goes thro' lots of the general guidelines
I no longer run Furore Products or Furore Cars Ltd, but would still highly recommend them for Acewell dashes, projector headlights, dominator
headlights, indicators, mirrors etc, best prices in the UK! Take a look at http://www.furoreproducts.co.uk/ or find more parts on Ebay, user names
furoreltd & furoreproducts, discounts available for LCB users.
Don't forget Stainless Steel Braided brake hoses, made to your exact requirements in any of around 16 colours.

Mmm I thought it was Pre 1975 to evade an emmissions test.
and from IVA manual
“Effective Date”
The “effective date” used to determine the criteria applicable is -
the date of manufacture of the vehicle, except for an “Amateur Built” vehicle, a “Vehicle manufactured using parts of a registered vehicle” or a
“Rebuilt vehicle” it shall be 1 January immediately preceding the date of manufacture of the vehicle’s engine if this is earlier.

http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual/how_to_use_page_one.htm
The "Vehicle First Used dates" is what you are after:
quote: MOT Manual
NT's will normally be provided with the vehicle details as part of the Vehicle Specific Information supplied by the MOT database. This will
usually Include the vehicle's 'first used' date. Where this information Is available, the NT should only use Reasons for Rejections
applicable to the vehicle's age.
However, In cases where this Information Is not available or incorrect, the NT should determine the vehicle's 'first used' date as
follows;
a. Its date of manufacture, If the vehicle was originally used without being
registered in QB (e.g., an Imported vehicle or ex-HM Forces vehicle),
or
b. Vehicles having a Q plate registration when presented for MOT are to
be treated as being first used on 1 January 1971, or
c. In any other case, the earlier of either
. Its date of first registration, or
. The date six months after It was manufactured.
This information should be entered onto the VTS Device to enable the NT to select the appropriate Reason for Rejection.
This essentially says that if you car is not present on the database (or the information is incorrect) and it has a Q reg, then it will be treated as
though first used on January 1971. This is why a Q plate no longer gets you out of emission testing on cars that have been SVA's/IVA'd,
since they will appear on the database.
