MT75 VS Type 9
As per the title, what are the pros and cons of the two boxes when fitted to a Zetec? I am beginning to form the opinion that the ratios in the MT75
may be better suited but I have no experience of them having only worked on type 9's in the past.
Please discuss!

Both boxes are entirely suitable for a Zetec. Either will bolt straight on.
The MT75 doesn't have a separate bellhousing like the Type 9, it's an all in one unit.
First gear on the MT75 is lower than on the Type 9, but the other ratios are the same. The lower first gear gives you better acceleration, but
you're changing up after no time at all. Some folk don't even bother using first for that reason.
The MT75 is a stronger box than the Type 9 & will handle considerably more power, although having said that, the Type 9 will still handle around
170bhp with ease.
The Type 9 gearlever is further forward in the car than it is with the MT75. Whether or not this is an issue will depend on the car you're
fitting it to, but extensions to move the lever back are readily available.
Quickchange kits are available for both, & there are many DIY versions around, too which can be made up for only a few pounds. Do a search of this
site & you'll see examples of what other folk have done.
The MT75 gearchange can be a bit sloppy, but again there are simple solutions to be found on this site.

MT75 is slightly fatter. When I asked Raw about using one on the striker, the said if I wanted an MT75 i should specifiy their 'cosworth'
chassis which has a wider tunnel. Not sure if that applies to any other kits though.

ratio's here: http://westfield-world.com/gearboxspecs.html (both 4cyl version I think)
also the MT75 is a bit bigger but I beleve a little lighter than the type9 (mainly because its got an all alloy case/bellhousing)
the type9 has allot more options changing the ratios - the likes of BGH do heavy duty type9's with a range of ratios (also quaife etc... but
they cost even more) changing 1st form a 3.65 to 2.98 is quite a popular mod

Certainly true that the MT75 is wider then the Type 9. As a result there are far fewer kits that will accommodate it.
But, if the kit won't accommodate an MT75, then is the car perhaps going to be too narrow inside?
If you're going any distance 'feeling a bit on the snug side' can soon turn into feeling downright cramped. I want to be able to get
my comfy 475mm seats in, & not feel that half of me is hanging outside the bodywork!
And I'm only 5'10" and 11 stone 9!

There also a lot cheaper. I sold one today that I had cleaned up like new for half what a tatty T9 is going for an ebay. Ive got one in my kit. There
a bit chunkier but I couldnt tell much differance in weight compared to a t9. They have a hall afect speed sensor that will run lots of speedo's
and is so much smoother than magnets. Its very easy to move the gear stick.
I am sure there is more

some of the later type9's have that too
and if you've got an earlier one I think you can fit a hall effect sensor if you want
