Zetec cam bearing caps

Good evening everyone, a little encouragement required here.

Just stripped down the Zetec only to find someone has been here before.....

I suspect one of the bearing caps for the exhaust camshaft had been put on the wrong way around.
I base this on the fact that the 'paint marks' and the cap number were reversed compared to all of the other caps.

Do I replace as it was or as I think it should be?

All suggestions welcome.

Len.

I would have thought if it was critical for the caps to be fitted one way only, they would of been keyed?

Any wear damage is done now if the engine has been run, but, I think I'd put it back in what would seem to be the correct way.

These will have been line bored when the engine was manufactured
Hopefully they should only go on one way without an obvious 'step' being noticed

Try it the way you think it should be, but check for any 'step'

Think the zetec cam caps fit onto a 'bushed locater' though iirc ?

Thanks everyone.

Some checks when rebuilding and I think I will put it the normal way round.

and Perksy, you are correct - 'bushed locaters' are fitted.
