zx12r engine

Hello,

after breaking my engine last monday, i bought another one today.

It is a 2001 A model ZX12R engine.

I will modify the new engine as i did the old one.

I have a shortened sump, modified injection, KMS ECU with loom, external oil cooler with filter relocator.

I have no baffle plate in the sump.
Should i put one ?
If yes, where can i find one , or a model ?
Is there anything you think i should modify to avoid any problem in the future ?

What was the cause of the failure on the last motor?

Ouch!! What were you doing when it went pop? If you've been running without a baffle I would suspect oil surge.

I was inna trackdays.
This was my second 15 min run.

When accelerating, the engine broke.

Do you have a baffle in the sump ?
where does it come from ?

Id leave it alone. Bike engines are designed as they are for a reason, and manage to lean over to silly angles without oil surge problems, though admittedly in a BEC the engine remains upright.

I think most folk would believe that baffle is a good idea.

The other thing which is well worth the bother is a 30psi oil sensor and big light. The stock oil pressure switches are much lower and really only tell you that your engine is already broken.

Flickering 30psi light tells you soon enough to avoid damage.

The only downside of a light at 30psi, is that it will come on at idle (the reason the manufacturers don't do it), but that is easy to live with.

edited to say that I have no specific knowledge or experience of the zx12r

Bike engines mainly see surges in one direction, accelerating and breaking.
and they tned to have deep tapered sumps, which we often cut down.

Cars tend to lean the wrong way in corners

Just think were the oil will go when beaking hard into a corner then hard turning, then hard acceleration still on the bend.

I spoke to Andy at AB performance for advice for my BEC.
Very helpful guy.
