V8 timing help
Hi guys i know a few of you here have Rover V8's fitted to your cars and also a few here that are land rover owners. I need some help with my
Range rover classic 1991 3.9 petrol V8, regarding its timings.
Im unsure how to set this as its abit old for me
Today i finally got round to replacing the vacuum advance unit on the dizzy, as the last one only lasted a year before it split and i had forgotten
all about it until a friend started to talk about timings on my car. I have put my timing strobe onto plug one and disconected the vacuum unit to set
the timings to the books 6-8 BTDC but i cant really tell if im doing it right!
With the engine running and standing infront of the car i can see the timing marks, but with no numbers on them except 'B' or
'8' on the end of the scale to the right, all the markings here are now to the left with a tipex mark near the end of the scale on the
left side (previous owner). If i turn the dizzy clockwise (from above) the tipex marker gets closer to the timing point but the revs drop and the
engine sound gets deeper.
AM I DOING IT RIGHT OR WILL I MONG IT UP? lol i couldnt bring myself to adjust it too far (halfway to tipex marker) incase it might cause damage and
after a quick drive i noticed no difference or pinking, just a deeper sound to the engine.
Any help or explaination to what i have done would be helpfull.

The tipex could be TDC, I set my V8's to 8 and they always run fine for me.
