pinto engine

hi fokes

next weekend i'm going to look at a tiger with a pinto (twin webber 45 dcoe) under the bonnet. i believe its done 540 mile since having new pistons and sleeves new head just old block. anyway what is the best option with BHP should i get the engine rebiult (buy who i dont know so few names would be good). whats the max BHP from a pinto without spending thousands. or put in a new zetec??? and what BHP would i get out of it?????

cheers steve

It is highly unlikely to have been resleeved - pinto's don't use sleeves.

However given that you already have the 45's then 150 BHP should be not far off with a bit of porting.

If you want more power than that then it will be cheaper to change to a zetec.

If you decide to buy the car why not run it for awhile and see how you get on with it ?

You might find its quick enough before starting to throw money at upgrading the engine

But if your planning upgrades or modifying the engine it will work out cheaper to hold on and buy nearer the spec' you want to start with

I am a believer in pintos i have one and it makes 150bhp at the flywheel not to expensive to make over that its big money

BUT if i was starting over again i would look at other more modern engines like zetec /Nissan etc that can make bigger bhp cheaper
Or Bike engines did i say that NO

a 2 litre zetec will give around the 150bhp in standard guise but will cost you few hundred quid to instal remember you need the manifols the ecu the wiring, a new side panel possibly bonnet so probably £600 at the cheapest do a bit of head work on the pinto and chuch a trick cam in it and who knows what you will put out it could be 170 bhp
