Radiator required to fill space 700x280mm, suggestions?
Since new engine install the old polo rad isn't up to the job, i've already increased the oil cooler size and improved the ducting but its
just not working. I have an available space of 700mm wide x 250 high, obviously i can incline it to take a higher rad. Ideally i'd like a
lightweight alloy rad, but also i dont want to spend a fortune (as there is a good chance it will get fubared soemtime soon . I've been
looking round and a mkII MR2 rad looks like it may just fit, but i've not got exact dimensions. Any other suggestions??

not at that price The polo rad just isnt a nice fit in the front of my modified fury front end, which is partly the reason for the bad air flow
IMO

Just a thought are you sure that you have enough holes to let the hot air out? are you getting a good airflow through the existing rad?
Phoned the local ramblers club today, but the bloke who answered just
went on and on.

Yeah flow is fine, removed undertray in engine bay as thought this was partly to blame. The rad is also a bit battered so think this is another
factor, but the fact is the car always ran nice a cool with the blade engine, but the new. R1 is gettimg too hot, so purely gotta be rad isn't
upto the job

A VW Scirocco rad is the one we X1/9 owners go for, light and cheap. The Punto GT is another possibility.

Austen,
You have mail with a radiator sizing csv...has sizes for most rads in it...
Personally I just went down to the local motorfactors and looked through their Valeo catalogue...

I bought one for a ford focus (575*225) which is all alloy cores with decent gap between fins. There was a stand at Newark selling a whole host of
rads. Mine was £15 (new)
The other possibilities for the engine getting too hot are:
Water pump not giving good flow.
Insuffient coolant in the water.
Thermostat stuck/blocked.
Airlock so engine isn't fully cooled.
Fan seized or running the wrong way.
And probably a host of other cooling things - could also be incorrect timing/fueling causing the engine to produce too much heat too.
I'm assuming you would have spotted kinked or collapsed pipes/hoses.
Regards
Hugh

The Mk2 Golf rad is same hose sizes etc. as Polo but 50mm wider. I used this one myself just to be future-proofed in case I upgrade engine and need
the cooling.
Also, according to PPCmag article on cooling/rads if you set the rad top at 20° back from vertical then you get much better cooling as the cool air
can reach the rear core of a twin core without being so blocked by the front core!

James

Without being cheeky...any chance of a copy of the file? Would give me a starting point (was doing a search for an online radiator catalogue and
this thread popped up). Does it have cooling capacity (need one for a X30XE Vauxhall lump) listed, or just the original application?
Cheers,
Phil
