Possibly change from type 2 gearbox to type 9 ?

I may change my gearbox in the winter from a ford type 2 to a 5 speed type 9
A couple of questions first

Are the dimensions of both 2 and 9 similar ?

Is there any difference in spigot and prop splines sizes and locations different

are clutches etc the same

Is the starter motor still on the nearside of the car

Are all type 9 5 speed with reverse

sorry for all the quite inane questions, but unless its a pretty seemless swop over then i will stay with my trusty type 2!

regards

steve

5 speed type 9 is longer and has gearbox mount further back
Type 2 is 7/8th inch 20 splines, type 9 is 1 inch 23 splines
Don't know about the spigot but would change it anyway
Standard bell housing nearside starter, left hand modes had starter on the other side, RS2000 has starter either side.
There was 4 speed type 9 but it's not that common now
Beware of the diesel or P100 box ratios are awfull
V6 box has longer input shaft different bell housing

Early Sierra 1600 clutch fits and copes well , suspect the prop splines may be different as well as the prop length? You may also benefit from a remote for the gearlever Have a look at David Jenkins posts for a diy solution which works well and is locost (Mine cost £0.92 and a few bits of scrap
