running in xflow

Hi,

We've just finished building our 1300 xflow and need some advice about how to best run it in.

We have been running it in our garage everyday for a few weeks and now we need to put it under load

We have a track day booked at Bedford for tomorrow and we want to know what we should do and how long we should do it on the engine so that we can run it fully without problems.

Cheers

Max

Hi Max,

The last couple of Xflows that I've run in I did as follows:
First 20 minutes over 2500 revs, but not in gear, to run the cam in (as per instructions)
First few hundred miles (300-500) without straining the engine. Not too high revs, but not making the engine labour (by low revs up hills etc). Gradually building up the revs used and load put on the engine throughout this period.

This seemed to work for me. The first engine was moderately tuned and did a couple of thousand miles (including sprinting) without problem before being replaced by the second. The second was tuned quite a bit more, but the car was stolen not long after I'd finished "running it in". These were both in a Mk2 Escort rather than a kit car.

I've seen a lot of different opinions on running in engines on forums before, with some saying not to bother at all and others being really cautious for the first few hundred miles! But the above is what I've done.
