Zetec ignition map reading

Hi Guy's,

I've got a Sylva Striker running a 2.1 Zetec silvertop on 45 webbers.

The car is setup using a megajolt system and I have managed to download the map currently on the car but I'm looking to get this fine tuned.

I wont be doign this myself but am quite entrigued to see how good or bad the map is before I take it anywhere.

Is there anyone on here that would be able to take a look at the map and give me there thoughts on the map.

Cheers
Matt

Hi Matt.
Although I have no direct experience of Zetecs I would say that your map is quite conservative and definitely safe.
My 3SGE map is given below for comparison. It is a 2 litre 16V toyota engine. It is upside down compared to yours. ( The map, not the engine) Maximum load condition is on the top line of my map, the bottom line of yours.
I run 34 degrees max and it is "all in" 2800 by rpm. Cruise advance can be in the low 40's.
The advance under low load cruise condition is quite low on your map too and could be in the high 30's.
And why the single figure values in the 1300 column?
From what I can find on the net the Zetec can usually run around 30 degrees under full load above 3000 rpm if correctly fuelled.
Below my map is a sample Zetec map from the net. It runs 30 under full load and up to 39 under cruise.
Hope this helps.

Geoff.

Cheers Geoff.

Well thats good to hear about how safe and conservative its running.

Over time, I'm hoping to learn more and more about mapping my car and how the different settings effect the running of the car.

The settigns I published in my initial post were from where the previous owner had it setup when it was rebuilt to a 2.1 16v.

He thought it must be putting out about 205bhp, but as you said if its running this safe, I cant see that and gives me alittle more to play with when I get it mapped properly.

Its great fun as it is but as always, I'm always looking for that bit extra and being that the car is mainly for track days and occasional weekend use, my intentions for next year in going into hill climbs and sprints.

A pity there's no idiot guide on how to learn these sort of things.
