Zetec compatibility question

I currently have a 1600 crossflow on its normal 4 speed type 2 gearbox and runs (of a fashion) on Dellorto twin 40's (pop bang).

I've got an opportunity for a complete low mileage black top 1.8l zetec. I know the Zetec fits a variety of g'boxes and most will go for 5 speeds, but I'd like to be able to leave everything from behind the engine untouched to keep the costs down.

So, would the zetec fit my gearbox?

A second question if I may. The engine comes with all the bits including ecu etc. There is loads of talk about mega jolt etc, is there really a need to move away from the standard induction and fuelling kit?

Cheers folks

the bell housing pattern from the 4 speed will be the same as the typ nine, im not sure about the input shaf though if it is the same diameter on the 4 speed box then all shoulf go in. I run a 1.8 with type nine box using the zetec clutch, a spiggot bearing for the crank, a 1.8 escort water pump (not Mondeo as it runs the opposite direction). I also run megajolt with carbs originally had 40's on now run bike carbs., only reason for the swap is they came with the megajolt at a good price. I also used a capri release bearing cant recall the number others on the forum will update you no doubt. I think it was CCT 13

personally I would go for the 5 speed box as you will note a fuel saving, if you are set up for performance you will get around 31 mpg I was getting 27 on the twin 40's

You have also got to think how much power will the 4 speed handle a tuned 1.8 can give up to 180 bhp, in standard guise they are around 115 a pair of 2litre cams will give aroung another 10bhp get rid of the cat net another 5 or more bhp then setup for power that could give another 10 - 15.

Life is like a bowl of fruit, funny how all the weird looking ones are left alone

As Austin man says, the release bearing is indeed a cct133.
