show me your header tanks please.

I am just finishing off the plumbing on my blacktop
install in my Indy and need the help of the masses please.On my silvertop
the header tank was on the bulkhead,this placed the filler cap above the
thermostat housing.

I am planing to mount my intercooler on the scuttle so want to fit the headertank
in the nose.The problem with my current header is that with it mounted as high as possible
it is only just level with the thermostat housing.

Do we think that it will be ok at this level,or should i look for a shallower tank?
Any help will be appreciated and photos of current set ups will be even better.

can the intercooler not go in the nose and the header tank on the scuttle? making it the highest piont in cooling system. or like most,are you limited for space?

Exactly.

The only place i can fit the cooler is on the scuttle.I cannot get the cooler and ducting into the
nose without cutting holes everwhere.Hence i need ideas for my header tank.

Mines in a box under the bench, but i can post a pic if you want ?


I dont use one on my xflow setup

Putting the cooler at the back will have litte benefit it needs to be in a flow of cool air really to get any benefit, the bulkhead area will attract nothing but heat

Plans are afoot to duct cool air to the bottom of the cooler and out through the bonnet vents.
There realy is no other choice of sites to fit it.

What about flaring the side pannels and fitting low down under inlet manifold in air flow

I did think of doing that but it is very tight
for space on the inlet side.the plenum,master cylinder
and steering shaft takd up most of the available
space.

You'd be suprised what you can squeeze into the nose cone Andy

It's a different car I know but here's the intercooler, oil cooler and radiator at the front of my Mac#1



i'll give you a shout when I get home from this job, come round for a look if you like, and a run out if the weathers nice!

surely they cant be getting enough cold air flow to keep that beast cool? one of my favourite builds ive followed.
wouldnt like your silicone hose bill though!

What's the prop angle like leaving the engine on the Mac 1, it looks like the engine is not parallel with the center line of the car ?

Theres a folder in my photo archive cunningly named "Header Tank" that shows how I mounted mine. Works a treat!!
