P O S fords
i have a pos transit connect, 2010 with 44,000 miles on it,it runs like a one leged donkey,cut,s out and surges on idle,boost is available every so
often and it smokes like a trooper...any ideas before i burn the poxy thing

Ford TDCI engines are notorious for doing EGR valves. If it is smoking like a pig, try giving it a clean out.

waranty has expired,even when it was covered they didnt do anything,we have 60 of these things and half have probs but the same story applies.
luckily they have bought some FIAT,s to replace these when they die D

First would be to try bypassing the EGR valve.
Next would be to swap over the ECU with one from one of the other Transit Connects of similar spec. If no difference then try swapping the MAF? air
flow sensor and any other sensors starting with the one that you can get at easilly. When it starts to run fine and the other van runs badly
you'll know youve found the smiking gun and you wont have spent any money at all to get to this point.

I agre but not an easy job to clean out - almost impossible! If you have to replace the EGR, its part of the manifold so it will all have to come off,
and from Fords expect to pay £400 + vat!!!

Must have changed the design since my 53 plate one, it was a simple bolt off/on job then. There's progress for you
