Type E Gearbox?

The donor Sierra I am intending to take my (Pinto) engine and gearbox from seems to have a Type E gearbox fitted (4 speed - reverse over to the left and forward). Has anyone used a Type E in a Locost build? Are there any problems specific to using a Type E?

I also have an MT75 gearbox - and a chassis built to fit it - so am wondering whether I will be better off using that instead perhaps?

Is it a very old Sierra? It's either that or it's had a replacement box fitted!

Personally, as a choice of the 2, I would fit the MT75. If you're going to be driving at any decent sort of speed I'd be surprised if you didn't want the 5th gear!

Cheers,
James

It's a C reg 1.6 EMAX L - so yep, an old, and low spec, one!

To be fair the Sierra will trot along at 70mph with no problems at all - and I can't imagine i'll be wanting to take my kit car to ridiculous top speeds....

If the chassis is spec for it go for the MT75, at least that way if you change your use and want to rag it on track, or sell it to some one who will track it, you can promote it has having the more recent, durable g/box.
No real good reason to keep the typeE apart from a minmal weight difference, which might even be negated by the all alloy casing of the mt75.

MT75 is a stronger box, 5 speed, easy to relocate the gear lever, for my money there is no question use it.

But - the Type E is lighter (by quite a bit). This is why only one or two Locost racers use a Type 9 with their X-flows. Nobidy will be using the heavy MT75.
