rover k series to gear box ..?
one of very stupid mates has just smashed up his rover. seems a shame to waste this engine, any idea what gear box i can match it to for rear wheel
drive?
be warned i am just as stupid as my mate so spell it out for me !

i didn't thin kstupid people were allowed to build caterhams 
a bellhousing or adapter plate will be required to mate the k series to a type 9 ford sierra gearbox..

I expect caterham can supply you with belhousings and such bits.
I think it's been discussed before, do a search for k-series and see what comes up.

err, according to uncle ron, you'd be able to build around 12 locosts for the price of a caterham 6 speed box..

ford type 9 is best option
You have the choice of a few different bellhousing suppliers depending on what box you want to use, the angle you want to mount the engine and where
you want the clutch fork to be.
The two most common options are both for the smaller flywheel engines. You can have either the high clutch release arm exit, long input shaft (v6)
gearbox version from caterham or the low clutch release arm exit, short input shaft (4cyl. type 9 gearbox).
Most are made by the same company anyway, and the quality is usaully very high.
If you have a new rover engine you are unlikely to come across the usual spigot bearing problems associated with the rover engine ford box convesion.
Worth checking the spigot hole in the crank before getting too far tho.
Asa word of caution, the engine is tall for a standrad locost build.

Read about someone who cut and shut the relevant parts from the k series gearbox and the type 9 bellhousing - got to be good at welding though!

Good evening Gents,
Newbie here so please bear with me. Been in the Rover game along time now and a good client of ours drives a MK kitcar amongst a couple of other nice
"toys" and we have been asked to substitute the K16 mpi engine as it is really poorly.
Question I have in relation to this thread is the spigot in the end of the crank is way too small on the replacement engine in comparisson to the
engine removed. The gearbox is a Ford 'box although I do not know which specific one. My options are :
Have the crank machined to allow the input shaft to travel in further or....
Remove 3/4 inch from the input shaft to allow the splines to contact the plate fully. I really do not wish to modify the input shaft gents so I am
assuming this issue pops up once in a while is there a nice straight forward way to reassembly without great expense to our client.
