clutch picture with question please

Hi

Quick question, should the splined ring with the arrow pointing to it be loose or solidly attached? Just pulled engine out and notice this bit is rather loose. Couldn't remember if it was like that when fitted??

There should always be a small amount of free play, to allow for centralising, also to allow for the damper spring reaction between the driven splined plate and the driving friction material disc (clamped between the clutch cover and the flywheel). The problem comes in knowing the difference between normal movement (allowing for new or normal wear and tear) and excessive.

As above
It shouldnt really be loose enough to move with your finger though
drop off the cover and check the springs for breakages or excess wear
If it sounds like a tambourine when shook, bin it
Launching off the mark will do this
If unsure ide change it while its out for what it would cost

Cool, I can wobble it quite a bit with my finger, and its only done 3000 miles so whilst out might as well change it.

Add a new clutch to the list of parts lol

Always found that if I can wobble it with my finger then theres a problem. Maybe needs more stimulation.
