Coolant temperature sensor in bypass hose
Hi All
I need to fit an additional coolant temperature sensor on my Clio Cup (sprint / hillclimb car). This will be for the data logger and I don't
want to touch or mess around with the existing sensor.
I think I could easily fit the sensor in the top hose but this would be after the thermostat so wouldn't give true readings at lower
temperatures or pick up if the thermostat was faulty.
The hose is 5/8" and I'll be using the black sensor (I think it's Bosch) that's fitted to the K Series as I have a new one and
also have (somewhere) the data curve.
So, is it possible to fit a sensor into the heater / bypass hose. I believe this 'flows' continuously but I've never seen any kind
of adaptor for hose of this diameter. Or am I being thick and missing something simple!
Thanks in advance
Wyn

Not done this so may be off the mark, but can you feed both the normal gauge and the data logger from the standard sensor? It may not work if the
sensor output suffers too much voltage drop, but if it does work at least you'll get accurate readings during and after the warm up period.

The bypass hose or heater circuit should get close to cylinder head temperature as coolant will circulate through with the thermostat both open or
closed.

I'd say that'd work. 5/8" pipe will be losing a fair bit of heat though so I'd put it as close to the head end as possible.
Not sure how much the flow changes when the stat opens so that might affect it.

Thanks all. Much appreciated.
I just need to find an adaptor - looks like this suits -

M10 x 1 I'm guessing for the K series sender?
