Second stupid question of the week
'Noon,
I have a 1300 Crossflow engine and a set of twin Webers. What's the minimum/cheapest I'd need to do to the Crossflow to get these working
together?
I figure an uprated cam and some head work. Could I bolt straight on a 1600GT head to the 1300? Will the standard mechanical fuel pump and dizzy be
OK?
Thanks,
Jon
P.S. I know its probably more efficient to use a Zetec but I want to play with the Crossflow for a few years first.

If the chokes are sized to the spec won't they run on a standard engine ?

If its on a road car, I wouldn't bother with the 1300, even with the 40's
as an old diesel astra would beat you off the lights
The minimum I would put in would be a standard 1600, but any better spec engines, as in cams, porting, etc, the power will go up
also a decent tubular exhaust manifold, is a must
Ive currently got a 1660 xflow, with a 270 cam, lightend/balanced, but have removed the 40's, as I hated the lack of driveability
and fuel economy, so back on the is the old 28/36 dcd carb,
the car is easy to drive, tractable, economical when not on full throttle,
the 40's and manifolds, will be on ebay, when I can be bothered
just my opinion
steve
Thats was probably spelt wrong, or had some grammer, that the "grammer police have to have a moan at

I can't remember which but either the dizzy or the fuel pump will foul on the dcoe manifold. There is ways round it apparently but what they are
I don't know. Not really much help at all really!
The trouble is though, once you start tuning the engine when do you stop? In all honesty, for what it would cost for a cam, which you will likely need
double valve springs, vernier pulley, duplex Chain etc, playing with stuff to get it to fit, then a set up on a rolling road, you're well on
your way to fitting a black top zetec and having way more power and reliability than you would with a Xflow.
For what it's worth, I have a 1700 Xflow in my car. Over the winter I must have spent £1000 on refreshing the engine and dyno tuning. It made
138bhp which is around standard black top power. You can buy a blacktop zetec for £100.
I do like the little Xflow though!

Thanks for the replies, I'd like to use the crossflow for now. Maybe I'll run it as standard for a bit, I figured using what I have plus
maybe a cam and head would be cheaper than buying a zetec, gearbox etc etc..
Not after huge power, just something easy.

its not a prblem bolting such carbs (despite you also have a manifold) on a bog standard 1300 engine.
neither you do need to change your dizzy nor the fuel-pump
the dizzy might need a side entry cap, but thats all.
1300 dcoe manifolds have a differnt angle than a 1600 dcoe manifold to give more clearance to the dizzy.
you can also bolt a 1600GT head straight onto a 1300.

Brilliant, yes i have the 1300 manifold. I'll see what the internals are like on this engine then maybe source a GT head and slightly better
cam.

People like the 1300 as it can rev higher then 1600. .but obviously thats no repkacement for cubes. Cheaper road tax too.
Fit 1100 pistons to raise CR.
