Zetec Engine Numbers and Age
We have a second hand Zetec 1.8, and we are trying to discover the age of the engine. We have a number of serial numbers / casting number on the
engine and wondered if anyone can help us out.
On the cylinder head: 958N-6090-BC
Towards the front of the engine block: 6015
Towards the back of the block: 958BB
In the middle at the bottom: 21L97
And 'punched' into the block (I suspect this is the number we need to take notice of): RKCW501259E
Can anyone help or does anyone know where we might be able to get the info? We have tried local Ford dealers but they can only compare with similar
cars they have on their records. We need to know so we can work out if we need a cat or not.

Cheers for that. Exactly what I was after... appears as if the engine number is WS01259 not W501259, so engine appears to be 1998. Bad news for SVA
emissions, means we need a cat. Have heard a rumour that if we put a cat on our Zetec running on Webers then it will last approximately 50 miles!

My Zetec 1.8 (ex Escort) had its year of manufacture cast into the block. The marking is inside a oval on the exhaust side, above the engine mount
next to the dip - stick hole. It should also be on the cma belt cover label. There are ways around this but i'm not posting it here !. I SVA'd a
1997 Zetec on Twin 40's with no Cat !
Projects :
Robin Hood S7 - Deceased !
SSC Stylus 16v - Sold
Spartan Zetec conversion
Rickman 2.0 Petrol (New Engine) - Sold
Rickman 1800 TD (ongoing)
TVR 400SE (Nearly a kit ?)
