Mini alternator on Pinto
I have had a measure up and a Mini alternator is almost the right size to go on the Mac#1 bracket (designed for orig alt) So the question is, do mini
engines and pinto's rotate in the same direction?
Has anyone else used a mini alt on a pinto?
I don't have an alternator yet and can pick up a Mini one for almost nowt.

I used a Micra alternator with mac#1 bracket and it works a treat. It has the added advantage of the voltage stabiliser thingymijig. Mac#1 explained
advantages to me but i cant remember - something along the lines of always outputting the full voltage even if the revs are low.

Hi, just to add to that.
These guys sell motorsport alternators to the mini scene
http://www.startermotors-alternators.com/Alt&Starter-Motorsport.htm
They are in fact Micra alternators and fit a mini no problems at all. They are lighter and more compact than a mini alternator.
Part number to look for from your local electrical auto factors is S5SN A7TO33277A

Both were designed to take Lucas style alternator fittings -- on this type of mounting the rear bush on the rear lug of the alternator can move a
little to compensate for variation.
Belt alignment was usually taken care of by using different pulleys.
In short you can bolt on any ACR alternator ( ie one with a built in regulator) that fits the bracket.
.
An Escort or Fiesta or Granada or Metro alternator will also fit as will one from a more modern Rover or Land Rover however be aware many later
cars have polly Vee pulleys and switching pulleys in complicated Lucas by the fact that later Lucas-Magnetti Marelli Alternators have key less pulley
fittings.

Use a series 3 landrover alternator. There £28 brand new units, not recon in any way. They are as per original Lucas units.
Any good Landrover mail order firm will do them at a low price. Try PADDOCK on the web, there cheapest/best.
Front casing needs rotating 120 degrees then they go straight in.
"just like that !"
