forgive me.....q about transmission

guys,

am i right in thinking that you can only match a sequential gearbox to a bike engine.

this is in terms of minimum fuss and alterations.

for our first project i am thinkin that i wud like a sequential box. am i chasing pipe dreams here or is there not much more work involved compared to a standard zetec fit with regular box?

With a bike engine the box is an integrated part of the engine so basically when you buy an engine you get the sequential gearbox free

you need a sprocket addaptor a prop shaft and a diff, you should a have a gearbox on the engine why do you need another ?

mind you a bmw bike has a sperate box so you could have a look at that, theres a bike breaker in gosrberton bear spalding moto bins you could ask a price.

A bike engine has the sequential gearbox built into the engine.

A Car engine would just need a sequential (Quaife or similar) bolting up as per a standard gearbox.

The only added complication on going sequential over H-gate on a car engine is persuading someone to give you the money to pay for it. A used car gearbox from a sierra can be had for tens of pounds. A used sequential will set you back many hundreds - often more than a brand new traditional gearbox.

As others have said, you cant use a bike engine one because the engine and gearbox are one integral unit, and car sequential boxes are very expensive. Here's a few examples of second hand ones that have sold on the usual forums

£2500

£2650

£2500

£3300

or buy a bike engine
