O/T generic ? about pcv valves

hope you gents on the far side of the pond are familiar with PCV valves. I have a question.

Specifically - why??????

I know it is a one-way valve between the valve/rocker cover and the intake, but I also have a plain vent between the areas.

What is the point of a one-way valve when the other breather has no valve at all?

In this case I am speaking of the Toyota 22re engine in my truck. Pcv valve plumbed from rocker cover to intake plenum and straight breather from rocker cover to intake plenum. one seems to negate the other.

The valve was traditionally there to prevent any backfires that may occur from igniting the fumes in the crankcase. In other words, fumes could enter the intake, but postive pressure in the case of a backfire would shut the valve down.

Not sure of the reasons behind what you have on your engine though...

Dont just build it.....make it!
