MOT emissions?
I have just been to my local garage and spoke to the MOT tester and he said that kit cars are visual test onlly. Is that right? Sounds too
good to be true.
So the plan would be to go through SVA with a ford xflow then put in a Vauxhall 16 valve 20 XE or C 20 XE engine. Going for SVA with the C 20 XE
would require (according to year - still not sure about that) fitting a CAT and I don't want that plus EFI, and I don't want that
either.
Is that right?
I'm sure this Q. has been asked a mill. times but I am a noobie - sorry!

Your doing exactly what i'm doing.
Using a Xflow for SVA then sticking in a XE
I think just telling the MOT guy what year (cough early one) should do. Especially if your cars got an old reg plate or a Q.

ok; it sounds like mot man is talking about Q plate that need a visual. As I will be aiming for age related plate, which will be much earlier than
any C20XE engine, will the MOT emission test be visual if Q, according to car reg. or according to engine spec?
How far have you gotten with your conversion? I'd be interested in where you are sourcingthe bits from.

i would be careful here.... i have just got back my registration document - the emission limits (CAT) my car was tested to are in the special notes
section. i know all the mot centres are going to be linked to the dvla next year - i am asuming that this info will be available to the mot tester and
then the emission limits might be as sva?? i hope someone can clear this up as a visual test is a hell of a lot better than going through all the cat
hassle again..

Haha - you would have thought so, wouldn't you?
When I spoke to my local MOT guy earlier in the year, apparently the data going into the system is being created as the do the
MOT.....apparently....seemed totally stoopid to me when the DVLA have a complete set of what's what....

mot emissions are as per sva and on mot computerisation the system tells you what limits to use based on dvla records of your installed engine.you are
also legally obliged to tell dvla of any changes to the spec of your car ie engine capacity etc. not that its always correct on the mot database
i've had blackbird becs as visual only,my blade bec is a cat test and i've also done a pinto that was down as a cat test, so basically
your installed engine and its year of manufacture sets the limits for emmisions not reg number

the more replies, the more compliated this seems.
my question boils down to whether a C20XE (vauxhall 16 vavle engine with CAT) has to go through CAT test. The Kit Car mag and another reply says no
if it is before Jul 95. Reason being that manufacturers fitted CATs before they were required by law.
