Make sure it's roughly level and fill until it runs out of the drain hole. The correct level is upto the bottom of the drain hole I believe.
Well that's the advice I've always used. Someone else may have better info.

Haynes data manuals seem to vary depending on the engine (!?!), but are between 1.2 and 1.5 litres
If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

Correct answer is to fill until it reaches the bottom of the filler hole. Cant remember how much I used when I last did it though ... I seem to
remember a touch over a litre, but I could be wrong.

It's 1.9 litres I'm afraid!
It's also supposed to be filled to a tad lower than the level plug for some daft reason but best to just fill to the plug level, a touch more
will help keep 5th gear in good nick and at worst will just cause the 'box to breathe a touch more oil out.
