Oil level after modified sump?

Can anyone tell me roughly where the oil level should be on my pinto dipstick now that it's got a modified sump from MK? I know I probably should've checked this when I first fitted the sump and filled it up but it slipped my mind! I'm guessing that the min/max markers on the stick aren't much use now that the sump is different.

Cheers,

Pete

The max oil level mark does not change. Any more full and the crank starts splashing it around. So the dip stick marks remain the same although if the sump is super short you may need to trim a tiny bit off the lower end for it to seat fully home.

When I shortened my sump , I filled it up with the correct amount and then calibrated/marked the dipstick.

Too much oil would run too cool , not enough oil would run too hot...........

The top level of the oil, when at the original dipstick mark, is set so as to avoid the crank churning through the oil. On fords, there is a baffle around the crank to dicourage this. The sump is shaped to contain a certain volume of oil.

Shortening the sump makes no difference to where the top level should be. The problem is that simply chopping the sump means you will lose oil volume.

Ideally this volume should be restored by further sump modification, above the "chop" level
