Catch tank theory

I'm looking into the needs of a catch tank, having 3 breathers (2xrocker covers and 1 pcv) presently going into the plenum. I have a couple of noobie questions (so bear with me)

Most of the catch tanks I have seen have a single inlet with a sight glass on the side and a filtered breather near the top. So do I just tee all the breathers together before they reach the tank?

What are the benefits of using a catch tank? I know that it removes oil and moisture from the blow-by gases but does it improve the mixture or emissions significantly?

It probably depends on the condition of the engine but how often do they need emptying on average?
