X/FLOW SUMP

I HAVE JUST BOUGHT AN ALLOY SUMP FROM A WESTFIELD FOR MY CROSSFLOW IT IS AN ALLOY SUMP WHICH HAS A FLAT BOTTOM TO IT THE SUMP MEASURES 6INCH FROM THE RIM TO THE BASE MY QUESTION IS DOES ANY ONE KNOW HOW MUCH OIL THIS SHOULD TAKE?

i bought the a caterham 1, not alloy the steel is it the extended and baffled 1, you should be able to go by the dipstick still as the level will be the same if you look at the old one,
did it come with the pick up if not make sure you shorten at the pickup end and not the top.

THE THING THAT IS BAFFLING ME IS THAT THE SUMP ALTHOUGH IS THE SAME DEPTH AS THE ORIGINAL IT IS LONGER DOES THIS MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE YES IT IS BAFFLED AS AM I AND I DID GET THE PICK UP PIPE WITH IT THANKS

firstly lower case please! UPPER CASE IS SHOUTNG AND RUDE!

what determines how the dipstick sits in place? On mine is a rinenforced rubber tube whose level I am guessing is fixed by the block - if this is so, you should fill up to the oringinal dipstick level.

If sum is same depth & width but longer, you need more oil.

You can measure the volume of old and new sumps with measuring tape, do the sumes and know how much extra oil is needed (haynes manual should give capcity and you add that extra bit to it).

Sorry!

Is it just a case of adding enough oil then to take it up to the same level as the original one then. The last thing i want to do is over fill/underfill with oil.

just go to original dipstick put both sumps together and youll see the top baffle the 1 sitting horizontal will be the same height as the original
