clutch information

hi everyone, can anyone tell me what the advantages are of using a paddle clutch over a standard clutch kit, and if you are a mechanic brainiac can you explain to me how a paddle clutch works, ive looked over the net and i cant find anything just sales sites

i think they are a step between standard clutches and multi plate clutches which are much more readily available nowadays .
paddle clutches are horrible to use on the road and are really only an option for reallt highly tuned engines.
not very popular now as lots of different options avaiable keeping the usual plate/cover arrangement
