Think you will find a CVH starter won't fit a type 9 bolt pattern.

well it doesn't matter about the type 9 i am not using that gearbox i am putting the zetec in a saab 96 and retaining the original gearbox, it should bolt straight on like a type 9. hopefully!

FWD CVH starter is different from RWD CVH -- mounting bolt pitch between holes is much smaller.

The 96 was the Colonge V4 and at that time Saab bought electrics of Lucas and Bosch so I suspect the bolt pitch will be Bosch/Lucas/Ford pattern of some sort.

Long time since I have been under the bonnet of one -- did the starter mount the conventional way round ?

well this is my first car, and thus the first one i have worked on, so i don;t know if it is backwards. however the starter motor is at the bottom of the engine, on the offside with the terminals facing the front of the car, is that backwards? it is a strange engine being a v4, do u think the saab gearbox will be able to bolt straight on? the v4 is a german ford, a cologne as u say.
