Timing for tuned Pinto

Does anyone know the what the timing should be for a tuned pinto with fast road cam (Kent FR32)?

Im getting a back fire through the carbs low down the rev range so want to check the timing first before I adjust anything else.

Thanks

I would start at about 12 degrees BTDC.

However if you are using a standard dizzy with just the vaucuum advance disconnected, the advance curve will be all wrong and it won't run all that well.

Backfiring through the carbs is often a sign of over advancement of the ignition.

The dizzy, i got with the engine and is matched to the cams. Its a non vacuum one.

Hopefully it is just the timing, i did set it up at idle with a timing light but never checked the advance. I did think the rough running was to do with the carbs, but hopefully its just the timings out.
