BMW Diff

I have searched the archives and they have answered my ratio and LSD questions, however I can't find a conclusion to the diff/driveshaft width threads.

So......my friend recently crashed his 1993 525i Sport and has said I can have the back end. Would this diff and driveshafts fit a de dion rear, book chassis?

It wasn't clear (to me) that a difinitive conclusion was reached regarding driveshaft lengths and hub issues?!?

I apologise if this has been answered and I've missed it!

Sam.

I think that's a reasonable question....

No idea about the answer though

I think it might be bit wide for a book chassis, you'd need some monster wheel arches.

It may be wide but you may be able to get the shafts cut down and sleeved....you get the tape measure out and measure it??

That's what I suggest. I've had a look at quite a few BMWs in the scrappies and the rear diff seems like it will work great. As Steve says, shortening the halfshafts is not out of the question. I have no idea about hubs though.

An alternative would be the E30 3 series - I think this is what Marlin are now offering as an option....similar(ish) vintage to the E34 above so may well be similarities in design...

Thanks guys, I asked the question before measuring as the car is in an awkward position at the mo, and I just thought I'd check quickly as he's offered it to me for free, dont want him changing his mind now do we!

Anyone interested in the engine? (Or too wide etc?!?)

Sam.

It's a massive great lump, but probably too long rather than too wide.
