quick question 1: xflow distributor cap

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that there is a side-entry lead version of the crossflow distributor cap
(1300/1600); is that right? (wasn't it mk1 escort or pre-crossflo?) Who sells these? Part number if known?

What do folks do when using the motorcraft dizzy on 1300 engine with twin side draughts? (asking 'cause there
is not a lot of space for the leads).

Some useful info. the Bosch distributor is about 10 mm taller than the Ford so that is not an option.

The original mk1 cortina Lotus twin cam lucas distributor had no vacuum advance AND had side entry distributor cap. It also had a revlimiter fitted on the rotor arm as standard but this can be replaced with an ordinary lucas rotor arm as fitted to the ordinary pre Xflow distributor. This distributor is a direct replacement for the standard Xflow distributor, although the counter-balance weights might not give you quite the right advance curve but it will be fairly close.

yeah, I know about the lucas one.

been trawlingn ebay and there seems to be a bosch side entry cap; now it so happens I have a spare Bosch but don;t know if it work; seems nice and tight; just needs new points.

and there is a geezer selling rally bosch with side entry cap, no vacuum advance - bnbot sure it that would be sutiable but I feel antoehr question coming up.....

ideally I wnat to replace the motrocraft cap but seem sdie entry does not exist.

Wasn't the Peugeot 205GTI 1600 cap the one to use if using a Bosch distributor? Bosch distributors are more reliable than the motorcrap ones anyhow.

According to my Wallage book, it's the cap for a Bosch distributor on a Fiat Strada Super 75 and 85. Motorcraft part number 5005566.

£2.98 for a P205 side entry cap from Halfrauds , do a search for side entry pinto cap. Think Fiat cap doesn't fit properly, Wallage got it wrong ?

Shouldn't be surprised - he got the wiring wrong for the Bosch dizzy conversion - only got 3 wires, but managed to get 2 of them the wrong way round...

I took the carbs and manifold off and had a good look. I thought there are a big clearance problem between the leads and the manifold as someone fitted the leads without the end covers - nothing like doing a proper job eh?

Anyway, with flexible silcone leads and the small rubber covers, the leads are not too badly bent plus some filing of the manifold web means it should be ok.

So no needs to change dizzy.
