bearings std. plus 10 or plus 20 thou.

Ready to start rebuilding my rover V8 after a good clean. How to I decide if the bearings required are Standard or +10 thou ect..

I can find part numbers on old bearings but cant match these anywhere..

On the back of the bearing shell it normally says STD, +10 etc.

If there is nothing then suspect they are STD.

Measuring is the only true way.

If in doubt , take your crank etc to your local engine reconditioners /parts suppliers who should be able to measure them for you and advise accordingly. It will be up to you to make sure the parts supplied are correct though.HTH

It's probably best to measure the current size of the crankshaft with some calipers.

if its standard then the mains should be 2.30 inches (2.5 inches for the 4.0L and 4.6L)and the big ends 2.00 inches diameter (tolerances for each size should be in your haynes manual) - don't use calipers as they aren't accurate enough get your self an outside micrometer - not too expensive and faaaar more accurate than calipers.
