modifying cooling sytem for zetec
Hi,
Have had the chance to measure my zetec and the space i have in my engine bay. i thought it would fit in with enough room so i could leave the
radiator where it was. turns out that was wishful thinking! the radiator needs moving as the obvious place is behind the engine.
This is for a saab 96 by the way, the radiator behind the engine is used when someone puts a v6 in place of the v4. My question is how should i modify
the cooling sytem to run like this? ie where should the pipes run now? do u think the system will cope with the rad in this position? obviously it
will need fans and i intend to duct air on to it some how to help the rad do its job!

As long as you have the bottom of the radiator supplying the pump and can get the air out of the system ok, and can get enough air through it, it
shouldn't matter where you put the radiator.
DO NOT PUT ON KNOB OR BOLLOCKS!

Have been waiting for burniating comments for awhile now!
Thats good, should be able to plump the radiator ok, does it matter if its at an angle? will that affect the water flow through it?
also should the zetec be ok like this? is it an engine that overheats fairly easily?

As long as the air can get to it or you have a good fan it should be ok. Zetec dont usually have an overheating problem but you dont wanna cause
one,.

Angle doesn't really matter, but for maximum efficiency, the fins need to be at right angles to the air flow...

thats good, will it matter if the expansion tank is slightly lower than the top of the rad? i don't kno wether to mount the raditor lower in the
engine bay or as high as i can manage to get it. Also whats the best way to duct air into the engine bay via bonnet? as i have heard its quite hard to
manage it!

Would be better to mount the rad lower if possible to enable air to rise to the highest point in the cooling system and escape either from a bleed
point or via the header tank. If cooling is marginal try a bottle of Water Wetter, it will lower temperature by as much as 20 degrees. HTH

i have a bleed point on my heater at its highest point, so if i get the rad below this it will be ok!
water wetter? not heard of that sort of thing before but if it lowers the temps by 20 degrees that would be useful!
have been looking at ducts that i can put in my bonnet to allow air to get to the rad, they are all abit dodgy. look very boy racer ish! i guess i
could duct air from the front of the car around the engine if i have space.
what do people use on their cars to duct air in through their bonnets?

May I suggest you crosspost this question to the bodywork section? There's a few experts that lurk there who can talk for hours on high and low
pressure zzzzzzones.....
