Where to fit senders?
I am trying to install an oil temperature and oil pressure gauge to the Indy. The gauges fitted to the dash easy enough, and all wired in OK. But
the senders, they are driving me nuts.
Both the temp and pressure senders are 1/8" NPT 27 tpi and my Kawasaki is metric. I tried my local guy but he has been looking for a week and
found nothing. I also emailed speedflow, but again got nothing back.
I have found a company called LMA Group who seem to do the adaptors I need, but before I order them, where is best to put the senders?
For oil pressure, I have two choices, one is to put a T-piece in between the oil pressure switch and the block, order a M10 x 1 t-piece with a 1/8 NPT
side port. The second is to replace a blanking plug, just under the timing cover and use an adaptor there, M18 x 1.5 to 1/8 NPT.
For temperature, I have loads of choices. The easiest seems to be to replace one of the sump plugs with an adaptor (M10 x 1 to 1/8" NPT and fit
the sender there. Will this give me an accurate reading, or is it better to put the sender in the flow? The alternative is to fit a T-piece to the
feed to the cylinder head, or the oil cooler, using an M14 x 1.5 with a 1/8 NPT side port?
Help! Oil pressure is OK, I think, but oil temp, what am I measuring? Oil temp in the sump, oil temp as it enters the cooler, oil temp as it leaves
the cooler or oil temp as it is delivered to the valve train / head?
Or does it not really matter, am I just checking that it doesn't go outside it's normal range?

The "normal" range depends where you put it. Eg, before and after the cooler should be different, so normal will vary upon placment.
Shouldn't matter too much as long as you know what the relevant reading means. Or just don't fit one, as it's just something elso to
worry about.

I've been thinking about this and the best place I reckon is when the oil enters the engine; i.e. after it hasd come from the cooler. Having
said that I fitted it to the sump in my v8, hmmmmm....

I've always fitted the sensor in either the sump or in a filter plate as I'd prefer to know what temp the oil is in the engine than
leaving the oil cooler.
