where are you? Possibly builders in the area that can show you an install.

Not the easiest choice of zetec to use but not that bad

OK...

On the physical side....

1) an alternator that fits
locost - standard silver / blacktop alternator on blacktop mount
hi(er)cost - brise or similar on custom mounts

2) A way of driving the water pump
see here - Clicky

3) shorten the sump & pickup
locost - chop about the steel section
hicost - buy a new sump & pickup from on the the suppliers below

4) Throttle bodies
locost - bike 'bodies either respaced on DCOE manifold or attached to custom manifold
higher cost - jenvey or similar on DCOE manifold

5) Flywheel / clutch
best to swap the 2.0 flywheel for the lighter 1.8, and get a clutch to match. Dunnell do a 1.8 flywheel that takes a standard pinto clutch.

6) Starter
1.8 CVH starter works well

7) Mounts
get MNR to do them!!!

Electricery...

Lowcost
a) Standard ECU on standard induction (won't work with throttle body kit)
b) ESC/2 ignition from another ford and carbs rather than TBs

midcost
Megasquirt ECU (DIY) - do search

hicost
Emerald, DTA

Useful Suppliers

(in my order for preference (i.e. cost))

Dunnell
Scholar
Raceline

Got a alternator and mounts for a silver top which im trying to modify (from tiger racing) although look like i need a big drive belt and a groved pully for water pump!

Still confused- mine looks a dif set up as with my alternator it will sit top left (looking from front)

And tiger say that standard water pump runs right way, but others say it dont?!?!

ill check clearance but bell housing looks way lower than sump! we will see once engine is in!

Im going to go for a set of jenveys with a OMEX Ecu around £1800

Ive got a pinto flywheel and clutch from tiger racing and a small mounting bearing ( which im not sure what thats for)

6) Starter
1.8 CVH starter works well

once again i got once from tiger but i just can see how it fits it looks too big!!

7) Mounts
get MNR to do them!!!
quote:

Marc has done and bashed his hands a few times- due to the tight fitting zetec, mounts look good but aint tried them yet

was going to use OMEX are they ok company???

Plus i bought a raceline water rail which fits but is designed for blacktop so i need to make a small bracket but my problem is the thermo housing (orignal black unit) seems to big to fit on end of water rail- what do i do there???

cheers again mate

£1800 sounds a lot for TBs + ECU

Omex is fine. Main ECUs are Emerld, Omex, MBE, DTA.

I think Dunnell do their own, too.

Small mounting bearing - this is the spigot bearing and needs to be put into the hole in the end of the crank at the flywheel end. it supports the end of the gearbox shaft.

A little confused about the gearbox being lower than the sump...however, there is a *huge* flange on the bottom of a Type 9 that can be angry-grindered off. I did this and then shortened my sump to match.

I spent about £450 on all the above, but could probably do it again for less than £200 as blacktops have come down in price in the last 18 months

The water pump on the Phase III (black top) is totally different to the water pump on the Phase I & II Zetecs.
The 2.0L phase I & II runs the opposite way to normal and was fitted with a "serpantine belt" This is easilly identified by the bottom hose connector coming out at about 10 to 15 degrees backwards when viewed from above. The 1.8L engine as fitted to the later Escorts ran a "Standard belt" configuration. These outlets come out square (at 90 degrees) to the block. However as I said earlier none of this applies to the phase III (blacktop) as it has a completely different water pump and belt setup.

Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want!!!

Just done the sums - and 1800 is probably about right so long as it includes either pumps, filters etc or a rolling road session

My rough for Jenvey+Emerald estimates work out at ...

400 Bodies
50 Rail
60 Ram Pipes
60 linkage
100 Filter
120 manifold
650 ECU
200 Rolling Road

all Plus the dreaded VAT

Bike throttle bodies with custom manifold should see this reduced to

100 filter
200 rolling road
100 bodies
150 custom manifold
60 ram pipes
650 ECU
