noisy mt75
I have a westfield with a mt75 gearbox, when in neutral, the gearbox is quiet when the cluch is down but has a loud rattle when the cluch is lifted,
this is more noticable when the engine and box are hot.
The car has no carpets so there is no sound deadning.
The box is 12 months old and was brand new when fitted to the car,
The gear change is still as smooth as ever.
Am I worrying over nothing?

surely that would be a worn clutch relase bearing? Not terminal but worth sorting.

The car is only 12months and 3500 miles old and built from a new kit from westfield so bearing shouldn't be worn yet.

Dont you believe it, I have seen clutch release bearings fall apart after a lot less mile than you say yours has done. Wouln't mind betting that
your problem lies there. Anyway its worth a check, and its the cheap option. ATB Ray.

This is a common problem on the MT 75 when using the Westfield release bearing.
The Westfield bearing has a 20mm spacer Bonded onto the face of the standard
Ford release bearing.
What can happen is the spacer seperates from the bearing and rattles about.
Engine idle speed set wrong can make it sound worse.
Cured mine over the Winter by replacing the bearing.
There's plenty of Westfields with this noise and i think the factory demonstrator had 'the rattle' .
Depends how bad it is and if you want to change it or not ?
If you have a Cable operated clutch, you can remove the clutch cable from the operating arm, remove the rubber cover from the gearbox and shine a
Maglite torch inside and have a look at the release bearing, if you can get your hand inside you can check the bearing.
HTH
Don't take this the wrong way, but don't put your hand inside the gearbox/bellhousing with the engine running

If it is the spacer that has come away is it just a "annoying rattle"? or will it cause more problems if left? I can put up with the
rattle I just dont want to be doing any further damage by leaving it
