Brown Gunk on inlet?

I've just been given a GSX-R1100WP engine which has been stood for 6months

Trouble is water has somehow got into the first cylinder, the carb had some tiny bits of rust, but came off OK after some lubrication & wiping
the two inlets however have a brown goo about butter consistency sitting at the bottom on the valve, allthough it doesn't seem to have discoloured the inlet/valve. I've put some engine oil down there to stop the problem getting any worse, and also a small amount into the bore. the oil is sitting in the inlets OK and not leaking through into cylinder. Question is do you think I should take the head off and check it all out? (I'm no expert mechanic and would rather not have to get a new head gasket....

any suggestions for how to proceed would be appreciated..

Thanks,
James

I think the whole thing is knackered, best let me have it to dispose of it environmentally.

I,d scoop the goo out, turn it over by hand and if it all feels alright not worry about it.

Once you have had it running for 10 mins give it a compression test, no point doing this unless its been started as the rings will probally need freeing up as its stood for so long anyway.

If this shows all is well then thrash it within an inch of its life on a track !

Regards Mark
