Hi and welcome to the forum. The Worx looks a really nice motor!

Just a quick question, before you spend ages cleaning a 3.62 diff, which engine are you using? I'm not very familiar with the different Honda engines!

If it's the old Honda CBR1000, I think you may want to look for a 3.38 or a 3.14 ratio. Are the ratios in the CBR1000RR different to the older engines? It may be worth some research.

Have a look for any post by Chris Gamlin, he has a link to a BEC Gear Ratio Calc on the bottom of each post. By entering engine, wheel / tyre size and diff ratio you can see top speed and max speed in each gear. The old CBR1000 with a 3.62 diff running 185x60Rx13"s would max out at 103mph in sixth at 11,000rpm. That would mean that 1st would redline at 39mph, 2nd at 52mph and 3rd at 65mph. Three gearchanges in the 0-60 dash may slow you down! Cruising at 75mph would have about 8,000rpm on the clock, which might get tiring and be quite thirsty.

A 3.38 on the other hand would see 118mph max, 1st would be 45mph, 2nd would be 60mph and cruising at 75mph would see 7,000rpm on the clocks.

Don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but better to be sure about the gear ratios now, than when it's fully built.

Mike

...RR makes it the new Fireblade you lucky tw**.
Ratios aren't such an issue - the CBR1000F* and RR engines bear no resemblance to each other whatsoever.

Hi Mike,

I'm not sure on the exact ratios in the '06 CBR1000RR (find out shortly ).

According to the '04 service manual it's:

primary reduction: 1.604
1st 2.538
2nd 1.941
3rd 1.578
4th 1.380
5th 1.250
6th 1.160

With these plugged into the helpful calculator (redline 11k, wheels: 205-60-13, 3.62 diff) gives redline speeds as:
1st 48.9mph
2nd 64.6mph
3rd 79.4mph

Not sure what I'd do with gears 4, 5 and 6 because I'd be speeding Answers on a postcard to.....

Cheers
Dave
