Gearbox woes.....thoughts please?
To add to my recent engine problems i now have a problem with my trusty type 9 gearbox.
During some minor dash work on my car i laid my scuttle against the gear lever and as i started the car there was a short rattling noise, a bit like a
nut or spanner falling against the engine. It stopped after a second or two and i never thought any more about it. The next night i started the car
and let the clutch out and the car tried to pull off even though it was in neutral. It seemed to be in a high gear such as 4th or 5th maybe. The gear
stick moves about as normal and would 'seem' to select all the gears, but it made no difference and stayed jammed in the same gear.
Tonight i removed the gearbox and held it in the vice, i have removed the top cover and am looking into the gearbox, nothing obviously wrong. However
when in 2nd or 4th the input and output shaft turn freely at the same speed (indicating neutral?), when i select a forward gear 1st, 3rd or 5th the
shafts will not turn. I would have thought the shafts would have turned in any gear? and the selected gear would detrmine the output shaft speed
relative to the input shaft speed.
So...does this sound familiar to anyone else? is my gearbox f**ked?
Incidentally the input shaft is 175mm long, is that the standard type 9 box or is that the V6 one? i need to know for finding a replacement, bearing
in mind i have made a custom toyota/ford bellhousing specifcally to suit the gearbox.
Any opinions or thoughts appreciated. Thanks

Sounds like you've dropped a selector fork. Worse than a clanger, but not as bad as a boll*ck!
Not entirely sure on the internal lay out of a type 9, but i assume there are 3 main forks. first fork does 1st and 2nd. Second fork does 3rd and 4th.
Third fork does 5th and maybe reverse. Not sure on the last fork, or if they work on1, 3, 5 and 2, 4. If you've dropped the second fork the box
will stay in that gear, ie 4th due to not being able to de-select it. If you then select any another gear the box will lock up due to being in 2 gears
at the same time. Ie it can't turn the output shaft at 2 different ratios at once! No idea how expensive/terminal this is though.

yep, you're dead right that's how the type 9 is laid out, and yep, you're getting two gears at once which will lock it up.
Are you sure it's neutral in 2nd and 4th? If it's actually in gear (are the input and output locked together, can you turn them opposite
ways for example?)
If it goes into 2nd and 4th then you've probably sheared the roll pin on the 2/4th gear selector fork.
