5 speed type 9 box to 1.3 x-flow

hi all help required

i am currently building i locost and have decided to put a 5 speed box in
(sierra type 9), the engine is a ford x-flow 1.3 and i have a 1600 x-flow
clutch and flywheel. When the gearbox is fully bolted on the clutch
actuation lever has no play in it i have tried the old escort thrust bearing
but this still does not make it have enough and i have come to a bit of a dead
end.

has anyone come across this before if so please help as its holding progres back

thank you all in advance

regards

mark

Frankly, I'm surprised you've got as far as that!

In the above scenario, the gearbox input shaft wouldn't have even gone into the clutch plate!
You need an Escort clutch cover and a 1600 PINTO plate (from Capri / Sierra) and release bearing.
The flywheel should have been fine fron your original 1300 (lighter than 1600 too)
Have you fitted a FWD flywheel instead?

thanks guys

i dont know i got given it with the gearbox when i told the scrapyard guy what i wanted and he was building one at the time and said it would be ok. the clutch was only changed to acomodate the larger shaft diameter and then the flywheel changed because the larger clutch would not fit the 1.3 flywheel.

so basically this is a bad combination

I'm using a 1.3 xflow and type 9,

I use the original flywheel and clutch cover, and a clutch from the mk2 escort.

I'm using (I think) A 7.7" 20 Spline plate, the Quinton Hasel number for the pressure plate is C752AF

The release arm and release bearing are from the Type 9.

Check out www.qh.com if you need to grab the QH clutch catalog, it lists the dimensions and splines for the ford clutches and is a godsend when dealing with suppliers.
