Zetec plumbing!
I've now got my zetec water plumbing all in, but i'm not convinced its working. How can i check it???
Its a 1.8 silvertop, so i haven't changed the waterpump. When its running i feel all the pipes and they are cold, only near the engine are they
hot......i also checked the thermostat and its not ceased or anything.
Help needed!

Is the pump rotation direction correct?

It will take a good few minutes to warm an engine up at idle with no load on it. Can you leave it running for 10-15 mins? Basically, if it
doesn't get too hot (on the guage), it works!

Mine takes a while to get heat round the whole system. IS the engine from an escort?? If its from a mondeo youl need to change the water pump to an
escort/fiesta one.

from an escort so it should be ok. I can run it for 10mins yes, i'd suppose this means it works, but why dont the pipes heat up???

Is it getting hot enough to open the thermostat? Try drilling a small hole (3-4mm) in the thermostat and see if it helps.

heating probs
we had a simmilar problem with a 2 litre zetec, you need to check and ensure that the pump connects to the bottom of the radiator so it is pulling not
pushing the water

The smaller 18mm(ish) pipes from either side of the thermo housing going to the bottom hose should get hot first as they are the warm up circuit and
heater supply so should be warm in a few mins. The thermostat opens at 90 ish deg so will take a while.

Hmm...how have you got it plumbed in?
e.g. do you have bypass pipes (as I have), water rail etc.
In this heat, run the engine for a while and see what happens with the temperature.
Mine with normal running and idle in 30 deg C ambient temperature goes up to about 100 deg C then the fan kicks in and it cools down to 90 deg C, the
fan turns off and it warms back up to 100 deg, fan kicks in etc etc....
Think it takes more than 10 minutes to get up to temperature if left at idle during warmup period though....
