Maybe this Locost web site is loosing its way a little.
If i was looking at up to £5000 do you think i would be bothered with a zetec.

I have 2 zetecs.

The first a fully rebuilt new every thing 2L with all the fancy bits and it owes me £***k.

The second (due to the above costing more than I would get for a full scratch built locost) 1.8L doing as much as I can and every thing from induction to ignition to alternator and starter and so on is on budget for £300.
Expecting 120 bhp which isnt huge but should be good fun for the money.

My engine (1.8 zetec) cost me 50 quid. Type 9 30 quid.
engine mounts £35 from GTS.
Megajolt for the ign 80 quid.
Bike carbs and manifold (Bogg bros) £250
Coil pack £5.
1.8 fiesta water pump £15

The 1.8s go for alot less than the 2 litres and with the 2 litres cams are nearly the same power. Just a little less torque.

DONT TAKE THE ENGINE APART. IT COSTS A FORTUNE TO REBUILD AND THEY DONT NEED IT.

I know donorspares.co.uk sell 2 litres for 180 quid and the 1.8's are less.

Type 9 from a sierra will run it a treat and can be had from breakers for sod all.

Direct fit IF you use the correct gearbox , from memory the bell housing needs to be 7in from front to rear . 1.6,1.8 & 2 litre boxes should be OK

Buy a tatty Mondeo and then you'll get the lot and can sel the rest on.
M reg Mondeo 2.0S went for £100 in our local yellow paper a few weeks ago. I just missed it. DOH!

I'm sticking with a 1.8 at the moment because it doesnt need as much modifying as a 2.0L. It bolts straight up to a type 9.

So far I have spent:
engine £200
box £30
clutch £30 (new off ebay)
starter £5
ZZR1100 carbs £45

All I need is an inlet manifold, and Megajolt. Under a ton for the megajolt and I'm making the inlet myself, so sub £500??

Steve

If you go for the 2.0l phase 1 or 2 you will need a 1.8 water pump.
I had a 1.8 £200 brand new
2.0l cams new £30
shortenned sump £80
Lightened flywhell modified to take 2.0l Pinto clutch £100
Home made TBs made from a pair of webers given to me free
modified a manifold £50 to take the TBs
Emerald ECU reconditioned £350
Golf fuel pump and accumulator £30 from scappy
Headers £120

Produced 148 bhp
