Megajolt Does anyone on here use it ?
Hey all
Ok so ive been reading as much as i can on just abot everything in preperation for buyinga kit. and i think im getting a decent grasp on most
things.....
I want to run a Zetec 2.0, pre aug95, on weber DCOE 45s (as i want to uprate cam shafts later)
But of course i will need to use an ignition only ECU (of course he says, 2 weeks ago i didnt knwo what Ignition only ECUs were)
Has anyone on these forums used a Megajolt system on a Zetec? any chance some one on here could give me a few tips.
Im happy to have a go assembeling the thing my self. i guess thats half the fun. but as for ordering Specific parts and scrounging bits from the
scrapy im lost.
Im also planning to build pretty much all the loom and wiering in the car from scratch/bits from the sierra loom. as i can imagine its a fun weekend
surrounded by wires and cursing the day i decided it was a better idea than spending a few hundread on a pre built loom.
Any help will be great (as chances are no matter how simple i wont have known it b4 you tell me)
Thanx in advance
John

There is another way...we got ignition systems from John Ehrlich at quad4rods.com - he builds a system based on the GM DIS ignition. It's
dirt-simple, doesn't require ANY building, tuning, timing or anything. Wire it up & run it. Wiring is simple: one wire to the sensor, one
power wire, one ground, and one wire to your tachometer. System includes all wiring, sensor, sensor mount, and adapting a Zetec front crankshaft
pulley with a sensor plate. Sensor mount is a nicely-machined CNC aly unit. We haven't run ours yet, but the parts are off-the-shelf GM stuff,
so replacement parts should be easy worldwide if any are required. Price is currently $315 USD (roughly 150 quid?) for the works. And, according to
John, a Zetec with this ignition holds a world speed record at Bonneville!!

I'm not sure I follow your logic here.
You can use FI and change the cams later.
I'm running a 97 phase II 2.0L Zetec on Megasquirt.
There isn't really a sound reason for running carbs that I can think of (unless you happen to have a pair kicking around the w/shop.)
full FI will cost about the same as a carb set up (if you build it yourself) and will give better performance and economy. You will not have the
expence of roller sessions either. (The latest "auto tuning" programs are superb).
I don't know if you're going to Donnington, but if you, are I'll be there today. Come and have a chat and a look at the Megasquirt
FI system on my car.
There are plenty of others on here who have fitted many different Ign/fuel systems to Zetec engines. Don't do anything without talking to lots
of people first.
Oh and remember. Advice gained from people with personal experience will allways carry more weight than theory.
Megasquirt/Jolt both have their failings but if you build and fit one of these systems you will learn much more about the needs of your engine than
you ever will using carbs.
Tuning becomes a hobby in it's own right.
Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want!!!

Never had mine running on the megajolt, I upgraded it before I go around to it.
A few tips and all IMHO
Dont make the megajolt unless you have accsess to the components as a lot of bits have min order quantitys. Buy it ready made and tested. Works out as
cheap or even cheaper.
Run it on tps and not map with your 45's

Sorry i worded that badly, i pointed out 45s as i was planning to uprate the cams because alot of people say its only worth using 45s if you are
upgrading the cams or the head.
I was planning carbs because ..... well it takes the zetec from about 130 to 165bhp according to westfield/Tiger/MK and it also seemed like a simpler
setup to work with over a FI system
I was planning to buy parts from ebay hen considering carbs/manifold and filters. as for the megajolt system i woudl either built it my self or get
some friends that have done chip design to solder it together for me. so that woudl come to around 40.00 plu sbits frm scrapyards.

Iv got megajolt running on my 1.8 zetec with bike carbs. Easy to set up. As warren said buy it built. Its easy to wire up and easy to play with.
Theres maps about for zetecs on twin 45's, im running mine on that at the min.
Have a look on the megajolt website. Cant remember what it is at the min but google it or search on here. There was a complete megajolt kit on ebay
this week. Not sure if its finished yet..
