Bike Carbs.... ok but which ones

Hey all
Me again. Ive been reading throught the archives on here and alot of people recomend bike carbs on a Zetec 2.0..... But I would have asumed these woudl be alot smaller than the carbs usedon a Bike, even thought the revs on a bike are higher than on a car i would still asume that bike carbs would be smaller????

And i asume that Bike Carbs would not provide as much of a power increas we weber 45s (165bhp on a zetec 2.0).

But i guess i shoudl look at all the options b4 i start spending money so what bike carbs would people recomend. lease bear in mind that i am considering upgrading camshafts eventualy as well. would like to get at least 160bhp with the carbs on the engine.

Any help, as always will be greatly apreciated.

Also does anyone fancy U2Uing me there MSN addy so i can pick someones breaines about megajolt?

Thanx in advance

John

The right bike carbs, ie. R1, blackbird etc, will be fine on a 2L engine. As you say they rev twice as high.

Even if you ran Twin 45's you wouldn't run 45mm chokes in them, so the bike carbs are probably larger anyway.

Why go with carbs? Throttle bodies will only cost you a fraction more but will release much more power and driveability will be heaps better with them.

Look out for some GSX-R bodies from a 750 or above, but ensure you get the ones which can be split and respaced.

You'll need a high pressure fuel pump and return line, but thats about it for major differences when using TB's rather than carbs. Apart from using megasquirt rather than jolt.

If you are looking for a bargain basement setup, then blackbird carbs are spaced perfectly to drop onto a cut down XE inlet manifold, so an XE would relieve more HP/£ than a Zetec. And it starts off with ~20bhp more too.

That said, personally I'd go GSX-R bodies onto a bogg bros manifold onto an XE.

rayward would be a good guy to talk to about Megasquirt.

Enjoy.
Chris

Hey
im after cheap and easy as its a first build. So i take it ill have to respace the carbs of a blackbird for a zetec?

Im also going megajolt for cheap and easy. be nice to make 160bhp to start with. and looking at the prices bike carbs go for it shoudl be refreshingly cheap on bike carbs....

Cheers for the help

John
