Rover Flywheel K SeriesHELP
Hi Gents.
I am really struggling to get hold of a Rover 1.6 flywheel to fit a K series engine.
I'm putting a 1.8 K series in my Indy but the flywheel is too large, so I need a 1.6 version which is a couple of inches smaller.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? I've tried loads of motafactors, who suggest a main agent, but Rover showrooms are abit thin on the
ground at the moment

Surely a whole rover 1.6 car wouldn't cost much if it is an MOT failure?
You only have to worry about getting rid of the rest of the car after you get the flywheel.....
Cheers

You could try Kernahan's in Witney - they're a Ford dealer now, but were previously a Rover main agent. They still advertise Rover parts
and servicing, so they might be worth a go.
www.kernahan.co.uk / 01993 705910
If they won't post it (and I guess they should do), I only work round the corner. Let me know if you need a hand - I could always pick it up in
my lunch break and whizz up to the post office with it...

ok you need a 1.6 flywheel BUT it needs to have the right timing marks on it or it wont start
the flywheel you need when turned over it has a pattern going round the inside edge of machined circles and 4 gaps
You DONT want the one that looks like its got a groove with a train track pattern strip of metal going round it
also you need a 1.6 clutch
I presume this is correct info as its the same on my VVC metro

Thanks for the very kind offer vinny1275. I will try other routes first but will take you up as a last resort (don't want to deprive you of a
lunch break)
Thanks Mookaloid, but I've just got rid of one wreck. SWIMBO might not be too happy with another!
zxrlocost, Thanks for the 'heads up' on the timing marks. Do you know what Rover models will have the correct type? I have been advised by
GeoffT on here to use the 190mm clutch and and bearing from an early sierra.

For RWD to type 9 you actually need a 1.4 flywheel --- takes the 7.5" Xflo clutch.
Swapping flywheels unless you what you are doing you will run into Rovers anti-theft system. As you go up the range and newer in model year it gets
more complex-------
The anti-theft system on the 200/400/25/45/Freelander is more complicated than on the Metro or MGF.
Dealing with the anti theft system gets even more complicated if the engine and ECU came from a Rover 75 or MG ZT because they use the BMW EWS
imobiliser and a special version of thev MEMS 3 ECU.
With Rover engines swaps the thing to be careful of the crank reluctor ring must match the cars ECU --- because as anti ringing measure the reluctor
ring patern vary and the pattern is "introduced" ie coded to the ECU using Rover TestBook or equivalent software. However MG-Rover being
the old BMC in drag spoilt the whole thing by only using 5 different patterns (this info is correct for the 200/400 series - can't say about
the later models.)
If the the MEMS ECU dosen't recognise the exact reluctor ring tooth pattern it will not allow the engine to run after being started for the
first time unless the battery is disconnected and reconnected every time the engine is stopped.
MEMS ECU are very fussy about reluctor ring patterns -- down fractions of mm.
Personally I don't thing much of the 1.8 as a sports car engine as in Rover or Frelander form it is breathless and not exactly free revving and
hasn't much more medium speed torque than the 1.6.
