Can you describe the noise a bit more? Is it grinding or rattling or clonking or groaning?
When in 2nd, does the noise go away if you disengage the clutch? If so, does it come back again when you re-engage?

It will be second gear f#cked, probably a tooth/teeth stripped. Second gear in motorcycle transmissions is the most heavily loaded, particularly with
the increased duty cycle in a car application. Many race bike engines break second gear frequently. Get the engine out and remove the gear assembly to
check before any consequential damage occurs( new gears are usually around the £60-£70 mark).
It's always worth keeping a watch on Ebay for gearboxes for sale, used bike transmissions are often sold for £20-£60 -ish. I keep 3 spare
assemblies for my GSX-R engine for just such an occaision!

Alot of BEC's tend to sound like they are whining in low gears at low speeds, my advice is to just drive it like normal and then you won't
be able to hear it anyway!
Seriously though as long as it drives fine then to be honest until something serious happens and you maybe can't select gears or use certain
gears then I would just keep driving it.

yep they do whine especially in first - well mine does but that seems ok, it almost feels like theres a dry connection in second and its not smooth
but its got new oil etc so i think i will drive it as all the gears select fine both up and down the box, theres no clutch slip, its just you get to
know your own car and its sounds and this is different to normal........

bear in mind that fixing it now is a hell of a lot cheaper than fixing it when it pops and takes out the whole box! I wouldnt be suprised if the
cost of a new box was comparable to the cost of the parts to fully recondition the existing one (i dont mean every gear, i mean inspect and replace a
selection of the worn parts). This would also leave you with both a better overall box and more importantly, knowledge of how to do it next time!

yep i think the advice to inspect now might be the best way forward so will get it looked at over the next couple of weeks, thanks
