Tin Top Water Pump

Hi all, started up my Astra Diesel this morning to go to work and the water pump broked!
Pi55ed water all over the rd and conked out, tried to start it again but just made some funny noises so i stopped.
Took the cam belt cover off, belt was loose, the water pump pully was hanging off as was the pully next to it (don't even know what that ones for).
I'm thinking the cam belt has slipped and timing is now well out so i've probably knackered a valve/valves. What are your thoughts guys? Can anyone say anything to make me feel a little better about my day!

The water pump is prone to seizing on the vx td. My old works van done the cam belt cost £1500 to fix, less than 500 miles later water pump seized taking out the cam belt and head (again!) this time £1700 by vx dealer. within a year 2 more works vans broke waterpump/heads.moral of the story was even when serviced correctly talk to people in the know, they knew about waterpump probs but only changed them if asked! rather than on every cambelt change.OR sell them and buy a ford van (we did)

If it doesn't fit MODIFY it!!

Should've bought a sierra, even if it breaks you can still use the donor parts.
Not much help i know but a vlid point don't you think?
Good luck.

Id throw a water pump and belt kit at it and see what happens. You may be lucky.

Try turning the cam shaft and crank shaft. If the cam turns freely u may get away with it.

Is it an izuzu lump??

Is it the old 1.7 vauxhall (not isuzu) diesel. I fixed a one that the pump went on & threw the belt off. All it did with the valve gear was break the followers which are possibly a designed in weak link, 8 new followers plus the pump & belt was all it needed, didnt even need to take the cam out. Worst part was finding all the broken followers as some bits had got into the sump.
I did an Isuzu 1.7 witha belt off too, not so good bent a few valves but not that bad to fix.

Its the GM diesel and not the Isuzu one so quite a bit more agricultural but frankly not worth throwing anything at other than something very big and heavy!
I only paid £200 for it at the auction.
Have put it on ebay as it is, if no takers i'll just take it to the scrappers, no harm done.
10 minutes after i started this post a mate phoned up, he just heard of an early Mondeo for sale so i went to look at it and its now sat outside.
This cloud has a silver lining anyway!
