bmw mini cooper s engine
i tryed a search but couldnt find any information.
has anyone looked into fitting one into a locost?
i know that the engines are not cheap but they are light, powerful and easy to tune.
im guessing wiring would be a sod so a aftermarket system would be a good idea.
does anyone have any views/coments?

As always the sticking point would be the availability of a suitable RWD gearbox.

How similar is the BMW fwd engine to the rwd variety?

I think it's actually a Chrysler engine (or Chrysler-developed) so will probably be nothing like any BMW RWD engines as far as gearbox
connections go.

Put it in the back, over the rear wheels, not a problem then, oh yeah, it would then be a middy

I think the average locosters thoughts would turn to cheaper power sources. The 175bhp a Cooper S engine would give, could easily be matched or
bettered by a cheaper Vauxhall 16v engine, which you can easily buy a bellhousing for to match to a Ford RWD box.
If you have the chance to get a cheap, known good engine, and you are happy fabricating a bellhousing or adapter plate to mate it to a suitable
gearbox then I guess it would make a pretty good engine for the locost, if the supercharger doesn't make it too bulky.

i can get a 2nd hand engine from a local scrappy for £700 but i havent looked into what that comes with.
whats the going rate for custom bellhousing? around £200? then you have aftermarket loom/ecu to look into.
relocating the intercooler would be a good idea.
just throwing some ideas together.
not very lo-cost is it?

NS Dev managed to get his engine for the saving of £50 odd. He brought a nearly knackered car, whipped the engine, sold the rest and made money! 200
odd bhp when you add throttle bodies, not really worth bothering with Ford stuff, unless bell housings are really expensive! For £700 I can get
another Blackbird engine for my car!
Edited to say, go for it if you want, but for the money you've said, I wouldn't. IMHO.

Chrysler Neon Trictec engine made somewhere in South America --- get this bit ROVER a great whack of the development costs.
